About Barrow / Barrow County, Georgia
Barrow County has about a hundred thousand people in it now, and roughly sixteen thousand of them arrived since the last census. So a lot of the questions asked here are asked by people who are new, or by people whose address has never quite matched their county.
This page is where those answers live. It is built by somebody who grew up here, it sells nothing, and every number on it says where it came from and when.
What is happening in Barrow County is rewritten every week: events, high school football, public meetings and county news. The things that happen every week, library storytimes, trivia night, the farmers market, are on the weekly calendar.
This is the most asked question in Barrow County and the one with the most confusing answer, because the county line and the mailing address disagree constantly.
It is not a trivia question. Your county decides which school system your kids attend, who you pay property taxes to, who you vote for, and who answers when you call 911.
Is Hoschton in Barrow County? The city is in Jackson County, but ZIP 30548 covers parts of four counties, so a Hoschton address tells you almost nothing on its own.
Is Braselton in Barrow County? Partly. Braselton sits in four counties at once and is also one of Barrow’s six cities, which is why the answer is genuinely confusing rather than just badly explained.
Barrow County School System runs 17 schools for 15,313 students, with about 1,200 full time classroom teachers. Those are federal figures for the 2024 to 2025 school year.
Which school your children attend is decided by attendance zone, not by your mailing address or your city name, which trips up a lot of families who move here. A page that walks through how to check your zone is being written. Until it is up, the school system’s own site is the place to check.
Winder, Auburn, Bethlehem, Braselton, Carl and Statham. Each one is a different place to live, with different utilities, different trash days and a different feel. Guides to each are coming, one at a time, researched properly rather than generated, because a welcome guide that sends a family to the wrong elementary school is worse than no guide at all.
Who to call, what the county handles versus what your city handles, and where the tax and tag offices are. This is being written and is not up yet.
Separate from the questions above, About Barrow keeps a ranked directory of 359 businesses across thirteen categories, ordered by Google rating weighted for review volume. Placement is not for sale, and the method is written down so you can argue with it.
Population, households and income are from the US Census Bureau’s QuickFacts for Barrow County, using the July 2025 population estimate and the 2020 to 2024 figures for the rest. School counts are from the National Center for Education Statistics for the 2024 to 2025 year. The list of six cities is from the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce. The founding date and land area are from the county’s public record. Checked 30 September 2026.
